Easter should be a time to enjoy a long bank holiday weekend, spend time with family and be allowed to eat chocolate eggs for breakfast. However while we are all in lockdown, this Easter was very different for many of us, but despite this our wonderful Scheme Managers and Independent Living Coordinators wanted to make sure that all our scheme residents could still get into the ‘Easter Spirit’ and enjoy a chocolate egg on WHA.
192 chocolate eggs were purchased from the local Asda and were then distributed to all WHA retirement scheme residents. Kath said ‘We know so many of our residents are unable to see their families and give their grandchildren Easter Eggs and gifts as they normally would, so we wanted to bring a little bit of Easter joy’ during this period.’ Kath, Rita, Janet and Bernie delivered the eggs to each resident by leaving them on doorsteps and ringing the bell, before stepping back to maintain the recommended social distancing.
Independent Living Coordinator for Lowry Close, Bernie Hubble even took her own children George and Nate on the Easter Egg delivery as they had also made Easter pictures and Rainbows for all the residents. Bernie said ‘We are obviously contacting our residents every day to check in and make sure they are okay, but this delivery of chocolate eggs, pictures and rainbows was just something a little extra that we can do, to try and bring a smile to people during this time. It may only be a chocolate egg, but our residents really appreciated it.’
