Our staff, volunteers, residents and LifeTime members rose to the challenge for this year’s Cupcake Day – raising money for Alzheimer’s Society by baking, buying and selling delicious treats as well as holding a decorating competition.
We took part in the annual event on Thursday, June 14, raising more than £150 after selling 300 cupcakes at all our sheltered accommodation schemes across the borough.
As well as making, buying, selling and very much enjoying eating cupcakes, our LifeTime Centre, based at The Gateway, Sankey Street, which provides activities for people aged 50 and over.
It was a very tough decision – as we had some amazing entries but after much deliberation (and cake eating) the best cupcake decorating award went to Chris Somerset; who was presented with a chocolate trophy . Well done to everyone that took part!
We would like to say a big thank you to Councillor Diana Bennett for joining in with the fun at Lowry Close.
Councillor Bennett added: “The event at Lowry was a lovely exercise in bringing people together, creating awareness and talking about a very important subject that many, if not all of us, will experience at some point in our lives. And everyone loves cake!’
Dementia is a disease of the brain and every three minutes someone is given a diagnosis, for which there is currently no cure. To date, Cupcake Day has raised £1.4million since 2016 to help people live well with dementia.
Quote from WHA rep who organised the event, Andrea Rees, LifeTime Officer: “We had an amazing day and we would like to give a big thank you to everyone involved. There were so many delicious cupcakes and the effort people made in decorating them were fantastic. WHA is proud to support have supported Alzheimer’s Society, and hope our efforts will go some way to helping someone in the area to live well with dementia.”
