Mark Siviter joined Warrington Housing Association as an Asset and Compliance Officer in February 2021.Here he talks to us about his role, gives us a brief insight into his past job roles, and how he spends his time away from the office.

Mark, tell us about your role as an asset and compliance officer for WHA, what does a typical day look like for you at WHA?

My main task is working on and updating HomeMaster – WHA’s web-based housing platform – where I make checks on compliance dates and see what inspections need to be done. I then check any out of hours calls that have come in and see if any action is required.

I may deal with any CO activations or gas leaks, or check certificates that come in to verify they are correct. Sometimes I will need to liaise with contractors and may also need to arrange staff training. It’s a varied and busy day.

What do you enjoy the most about the role?

The satisfaction of gaining 100% compliance. Mostly though, job satisfaction comes from the people I work with at WHA. It’s more like a family which makes the work environment so perfect.

What challenges have you faced so far?

The main frustration is when you can’t get access to someone’s property for whatever reason. It is only to be expected though, and this happens occasionally with any housing association.

What are you looking forward to in your role?

Getting all the compliance transferred over to HomeMaster. Also, training up the new apprentice, Bethany Duffy. I’m also looking forward to new projects like de-carbonisation.

What did you do before you joined WHA?

I’ve had a few jobs! I’ve been a chef, bricklayer, plumber, gas engineer, mechanical manager consulting for Manchester City Council, and I’ve worked in compliance with Golden Gates Housing.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love learning new things! Some of the skills I have acquired along the way include British sign language, ski instructor, aromatherapy, bricklaying and personal training. I Iove to cook and walk my Patterdale dog, Billy.

Tell us something else we don’t know about you…

Since qualifying as a first aider I helped to save a young girl’s life while on holiday. She fell into the pool and was pulled out unconscious. Fortunately my training meant I could give her mouth to mouth and resuscitate her.
