Warrington Housing Association has a proud record of helping young people through apprenticeships which lead to successful careers, young apprentice Matt is the latest success story who is graduating into a new career in housing.
Matt says “As I started my apprenticeship with Warrington Housing Association, it coincided with the first global pandemic for over 100 years, it can definitely be described as a unique experience. However, even in this chaotic time, I was made to feel welcome and included even when the vast majority of colleagues I was met was on a zoom screen for the first few months.”
“I am now moving on to my first job within the housing sector thanks to my time at WHA, Ive enjoyed working with the customer service and housing teams, helping customers and learning about how the housing providers make a real difference to people’s lives.”
“I have enjoyed learning lots of aspects of the job including –
- Answering Customer queries by phone and email
- Attending site and scheme visits
- Shadowing Housing Officers in property inspection and investigations into ASB
- Leading interviews for potential future tenants
- Supporting the delivery of community engagement events”
WHA were determined to give its customer facing apprentices a head start so increased the training available by enrolling Matt onto the Chartered Institute of Housing Level 3, a highly sought-after housing qualification, giving him a springboard to a career in housing.
Matt says he will keep in touch with the team at WHA. “As I come to the final few weeks of my time at Warrington Housing Association, with the experience gained during my time here, I have been successful in getting a full-time, permanent Housing Options Officer role with Wrexham Council. I am looking forward my continued work within the housing sector and making a real difference to people’s lives.”
